EFR – Oxygen Provider course

OXYGEN PROVIDER COURSE IS ADDRESSED TO ALL THOSE WHO, IN VARIOUS AND DIFFERENT TITLES, CAN BE CALLED FOR ASSISTANCE AND LOGISTIC SUPPORT IN THE ADMINISTRATION OF THERAPEUTIC OXYGEN.

It is in fact designed to illustrate how to administer oxygen to subjects who, for example, suffer from diving diseases, cases of drowning or respiratory failure.

The course is particularly addressed to: lifeguards, instructors of gyms and bathing establishments, personal trainers, tour guides, instructors and diving guides, volunteer operators of Civil Protection, health personnel employed in: ports, swimming pools, water parks, beaches, rivers, lakes etc.

As regards nautical activities, for example, the regulations in force in Italy (Ministerial Decree 146 of 19 July 2008) provide that, in the case of underwater activities, the person supervising and assisting in the boat must be suitable and entitled to first aid underwater emergencies and therefore also to the administration of therapeutic oxygen.

The administration of oxygen, as first aid in case of decompression diving accidents, is the standard of intervention required by national and international procedures, and is recommended by the main international medical organizations, as well as by the EU.

OBJECTIVES OF THE COURSE

During the course the student must learn:
Current regulations governing the administration of normobaric oxygen for medical use in the management of aquatic emergencies.
The main functions of the respiratory system.
The anatomy of the circulatory system.
The causes of water accidents.
How to recognize the signs and symptoms of victims affected by drowning syndrome, decompression disorders and pulmonary overdistension.
How to assemble an oxygen unit following the safety procedures.
How to provide appropriate assistance during a health emergency.
The appropriate use of the various components of the oxygen unit and how to provide appropriate assistance during a health emergency.
Procedures for proper use and maintenance of the Oxygen Unit.


Oxygen provider international certification

The BLS-D academy Oxygen provider First Aid course manual has been approved by SIMSI, the Italian Society of Underwater and Hyperbaric Medicine. The patent, obtained at the end of the course and passed positively, certifies that the holder is suitable to provide first aid for the support of vital functions (Basic Life Support and first aid operator) also with the help of the Oxygen Unit and to recognize and manage the main accidents from drowning and immersion.

The achievement of the Oxygen first aid certification is also mandatory and preparatory to attend the Rescue Diver and Apnea 3 ° Level courses in the major diving teaching agencies.
